FeedYourFamily.org - a community sourced website of food resources for New Mexicans

FeedYourFamily.org

FeedYourFamily.org is a community-maintained website meant to provide individuals and families a listing of programs, food banks, businesses, and community centers that offered additional support during the Fall 2025 federal government shutdown.

In the wake of the, at time of writing, longest government shutdown in US history and the first interruption to SNAP benefits since its conception, a friend reached out to me asking if I could repurpose some map code I had written several years prior to put together a listing of restaurants that were offering free food to kids.

Over the course of a weekend, I built feedyourfamily.org, and used Laravel Nova to implement a fast admin dashboard so that we could easily manage listings on the site. I added English-to-Spanish translations, since the site primarily focused on New Mexico businesses and organizations, and Spanish is the second largest language group in the state.

The site, at its peak, received a few thousand visits per day, and had on average 500 unique visitors per day. The site was shared with the public by the New Mexico Public Education Department. Ultimately, the site has been put in a holding pattern / semi-archive state, as the federal government has re-opened, and SNAP benefits were fully funded by the New Mexico State Government before the Senate passed the continuing resolution bill in November, 2025.

I have chosen to keep the site up as an archive of all of the businesses that offered to help New Mexican families during an unprecedented moment in US history.
